What Florida Law Requires
Annual Financial Audit (Florida Statute 1002.33)
Every Florida charter school must have an annual financial audit by an independent CPA, conducted in accordance with Government Auditing Standards and the Rules of the Auditor General. The governing board reviews and approves the report. Financial statements must follow the Florida DOE’s Red Book format.
What We Focus On
Our experience means we know where the important issues tend to surface.
Grant Compliance
We review federal, state, and local grant expenditures to verify funds were used in accordance with requirements and properly reported.
Per-Pupil Funding
We verify that FTE-based funding was properly calculated and recorded, and that enrollment reporting aligns with financial records.
Governing Board Oversight
We assess controls and reporting structures that allow the board to fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities—a key area of authorizer scrutiny.
Internal Controls
We evaluate the school’s control environment with attention to procurement, payroll, and cash disbursement processes.
Form 990 Considerations
For nonprofit charter schools, we identify issues relevant to Form 990 preparation, including program accomplishments and compensation disclosures.
How We Work
We know charter schools run lean. Administrative staff wear multiple hats, and audit season can feel like one more demand competing for limited bandwidth. We designed our process to minimize that burden.
Our modern audit technology analyzes your financial data—transaction volumes, payroll records, grant expenditures—more efficiently than traditional manual methods. That means a shorter document request list, less back-and-forth during fieldwork, and a more focused engagement.
We work directly with your leadership and administrative team to plan around your calendar—not ours. When we deliver our report, it’s written clearly enough for governing board members to understand without needing an accounting degree.
